fryrender vBeta1.9 is out!!!
This is probably the most awaited version of fryrender up to date. The main reason for this is that vBeta1.9 is fully 64-bit ready, meaning that it's more production-ready than ever.
-- 64-bit ready --
The most remarkable implications of the 64-bit port are:
1- The core engine and libraries have been cleanly ported to 64-bit, and support both 32 and 64 bits seamlessly. This applies not only to fry but to all of Feversoft's libraries, and our existing and future apps, like RC4.
2- In 64-bit systems, the 64-bit release is -FASTER- than the 32-bit one (up to 5-10% faster). This is because 64-bit CPUs execute (native) 64-bit code faster than non-native 32-bit code.
3- In the 64-bit release you won't be limited by the 2GB RAM limit anymore. The only limit in the 64-bit release is the total amount of RAM available to your system. So if you own N GB, fry64 will be free to use all of them.
4- Because of the non-limited RAM usage, you'll be able to render heavier scenes, and at larger resolutions.
5- We have split all the plugins where the host 3D app has a 64-bit version.
Put in short, from now on, all the RAM available to your 64-bit CPU/OS will be available to fryrender.
The new list of plugins for 32-bit platforms is:
3dsMax/VIZ 6-7-8, 3dsMax 9-2008, Cinema 4D R9.6-10, Lightwave 9.0, Lightwave 9.2-9.3, Rhino 3D R4, Maya 8.0, Maya 8.5, Maya 2008, SketchUp Pro 5-6, SoftImage|XSI 6.
and for 64-bit platforms:
3dsMax 9-2008, Cinema 4D R9.6-10, Lightwave 9.0, Lightwave 9.2-9.3, Maya 8.0, Maya 8.5, Maya 2008.
Note that even if your host app is 32-bit only (Rhino or SketchUp) you can still render using fryrender's 64-bit standalone core.
From now on, there will be 2 setups. The 32-bit one, including the 32-bit core and all the 32-bit plugins, and the 64-bit one, with the 64-bit core and plugins. You can install both if you want. By default, the standalone app of the last setup installed will be linked to the .fry extension, and hence invoked when rendering from any of the plugins.
-- Core improvements --
Many good things have happened inside fryrender's core besides the support for 64-bit CPUs. The materials system has been heavily revisited and significantly improved.
A new BRDF carries all the effects now. From an aesthetical point of view, this means *BETTER-LOOKING* metals, dielectrics, and plastics. From a purely technical point of view this means that some technical problems have been erradicated (Better noise convergence for glossy materials, no Phong energy loss anymore, better frosted glass, ...).
From the user's point of view this only means one thing: Better materials with the same effort. We're extremely happy with the new output coming out straight from the engine, and we hope that you'll be too.
Other remarkable things have been tuned or improved, such as the sky system, or the color mapping routines. All of them leading to better quality or, in some cases, speed.
-- New features --
Environment mapping has been BOOSTED thanks to our Image-Based Lighting (IBL) technology. It is now possible to quickly illuminate product shots or even exterior shots using HDR maps, achieving astonishing results in a record time.
This feature will be loved by our productvizzers out there, and may come in really handy to achieve a broad range of effects in exterior shots as well.
Some care has been put in the workflow too. Some improvements have been made in the UI here and there, and the very convenient Media Pool (drag and drop for maps and spectrums) has been included in the Material Editor too. A Sun Object has included in the plugins to control the Sun position interactively.
fryrender vBeta1.9 终于出现了，相信有不少朋友都期盼了很久了，这次更新主要加入了64位版的Fryrender并支持3dsmax/maya2008等新平台，同时也加入了诸如Image-Based Lighting (IBL)等新特性。
